Our Approach

To help more people achieve their health goals Adam is committed to continually developing his skills through further study.

The techniques he has special interest and skills in include:

Chiropractic

Chiropractic is a drug and surgery free modality of treatment. It is concerned with the diagnosis, management and prevention of mechanical disorders of the neuromusculoskeletal (nerves, muscles, joints and bones) system. Chiropractors use the best available evidence from research, the preferences of the patient and their own expertise and personal experience to help your spine and nervous system function optimally. In order to understand the potential benefits of chiropractic it is important to go over a few important points.

  • Chiropractic is based on the scientific fact that your body is a self-regulating, self-healing organism.
  • Your central nervous system is the main communication pathway to send messages around the body. Its health and performance determines how we adapt to chemical, physical and emotional stressors in our life, which are at times unavoidable.
  • The skull and spine allow for movement (otherwise we would be as stiff as a board!) and protects the delicate tissues of the brain and spinal cord. The moving bones of the spine and skull protect the communication pathways of the brain, spinal cord and nerve roots.
  • Chiropractors are skilled in assessing and gently correcting subluxated (suboptimal alignment and function) joints of the skull, spine and extremities to help the nervous system do what it needs to do and what it can do.

Applied Kinesiology

Adam is certified in AK (a postgraduate specialty course) and uses it during most visits to establish how best to treat you. AK uses muscle testing to assess your Triad of Health.  That is Chemical, Mental and Structural factors that balance the major health systems in your body.

The Triad of Health is interactive and all sides must be evaluated for the underlying cause of a problem.  A health problem on one side of the triad can affect the other sides.  For example, a chemical imbalance can cause physical symptoms and visa versa.

AK skills are developed and approved by the International College of Applied Kinesiology Board of Standards.  These skills are refined from many disciplines including Chiropractic, Osteopathy, Medicine, Dentistry, Acupuncture, Biochemistry, Psychology, Homeopathy, and Naturopathy etc.  Members of these professions share knowledge through the publications and conferences of the International College of Applied Kinesiology (ICAK).

AK is used during an examination to help specifically diagnose the cause of issues. It is also a way to measure change over the course of the treatment process.

Soft tissue therapy

Sometimes to aid the healing process soft tissue work is required. Adam uses his knowledge in Chiropractic and Applied kinesiology to target the muscles, tendons or ligaments that need releasing to allow your body to unwind and function better. The special techniques Adam uses can be tender or gentle depending on what is required. However all are designed to be specific and efficient so that you don’t need a long massage to get the benefit. If a long relaxing or deep tissue massage is best for you then Adam knows masseurs in the area to refer for you.

Dry Needling

Dry needling involves the insertion of an acupuncture needle into tight bands of tissue. This may effect blood flow and stimulate the healing process of soft tissues (muscle, fascia, tendons and ligaments, etc.). The result of dry needling may be pain relief and restoration of healthy muscle tone and therefore better movement.

Does it hurt?

The needle through the skin feels more like a quick prick. People describe it as a lot less painful than a blood needle as the acupuncture needle is extremely thin. A healthy muscle feels very little discomfort with insertion of this needle. However, if the muscle is sensitive and shortened or has active trigger points within it, you may feel a sensation like a muscle cramp (the “twitch” response) or a spread of energy away from the needle.

Adam has had training in using dry needling. He finds it useful in helping issues with shoulders, forearms, hands, legs, hips and feet.

Nutrition

A nutritional imbalance may worsen a physical or emotional problem or slow down the healing process.

Adam has built on the foundations taught at university by working with nutritionists and naturopaths to understand complex biochemical pathways.

If you have struggled to see lasting change in physical aches and pains, despite trying other treatments, our approach may help you.

We use a variety of tests including; applied kinesiology, isode vile testing, the gustatory response, and blood tests. These help establish what foods, vitamins, minerals, enzymes or toxins you may be sensitive to or need more of.

We stock or order in a variety of quality minerals, vitamins and supplements, including the Metagenics and Bioceuticals ranges.

Neuro Emotional Technique (N.E.T)

NET is a mind-body technique that uses a methodology of finding and removing neurological imbalances related to the physiology of unresolved stress.  NET is a tool that can help improve many behavioral and physical conditions.

NET is a mind-body technique that uses a methodology of finding and removing neurological imbalances related to the physiology of unresolved stress.  NET is a tool that can help improve many behavioral and physical conditions. It is based on the physiological foundations of stress-related responses. A classic example of how a physiological response can be associated with a memory:

Visualize a lemon . . . go ahead . . . try it. Now, think about cutting into that lemon, smell the lemony scent and see the juice running down the sides of the lemon. Now, squeeze some of the lemon’s juice into your mouth and take a big bite of the lemon. Is your mouth watering? If you’re like most people, it is, and what you’re experiencing is a physiological response to the memory of a lemon. The body’s response to stress works in a similar way.

Central to N.E.T is Pavlov’s theory. The conditioning process is based on the principles of the physiologist Pavlov. He demonstrated that an organism can be physiologically stimulated by a previously ineffective stimulus. For example, you were bitten by a snake while walking down the path and your body reacted as you would expect. Then 20 years later walking down a path and a stick scratched your leg your initial response may take you back to that snake bite and your body responds like you have been bitten by a snake. The same involuntary process may happen with emotional stressors in our life where something bad to us occurred which we didn’t deal with well. When we get overly stressed by similar things of less significance it still triggers an overactive stress response.

N.E.T is a way of tapping into your subconscious and disconnecting such a stress response. In some situations you may need more time and help from a qualified psychologist to help in dealing with these causes of stress.
